things I'm loving in September.................

:: the logs have arrived, one and a quarter tonnes of them which took 3 hours to wheelbarrow through the house.............oh the joy of terraced house living. Let the fires begin!

:: having the lights on and the twinkling glow cast on our wine glasses from the fairy lights in the kitchen.

:: finally enjoying the fruits of our labour. Having these few sunny September days has meant that our tomatoes are finally edible, boy have we been patient, but the wait has been worth it.

:: still being able to enjoy our little garden, be it bouncing, eating, crocheting or tea drinking.

:: the colours of pencils and crayons. I've found that having them to hand in the kitchen means that the children are drawing much more than before and the added bonus is that I love looking at them in all their colourful glory in their pots.

:: my new two wheeled wonder. An early 40th present (ok, so it's a whole year early but who's counting). My lovely old Raleigh will be wheeling it's way up North to my little sis who can use the bike seat and it's been replaced with this beauty. I'm in love, this bike will be with me forever more, just got to wear the saddle in!

:: a new shelf in the porch. A simple thing really, but it's given a home to the lanterns which have been languishing on the kitchen floor for years. The drill has been in use quite a lot here recently, updates to follow.......

:: sitting in the garden today and noticing that amongst the dead strawberries, holiday buckets and other bits of crap my auricula has flowered unexpectedly.
:: moving a shelf from the kitchen to a new spot above the piano to house my ever expanding collection of wool, passing by and catching a glimpse of that colour in the corner of my eye, makes me happy................sad but true.

:: summer holiday puppet shows, an idea nicked from a friend. Kept them entertained nicely for about an hour and a half, a wooden spoon for each of us...........now to be found languishing in Jack's bedroom. Oh, and the dirty feet .................love 'em!

:: quiet lunchtimes once again, enjoying an impulse buy from the bookshop.

:: welcoming back Ian from a 150 miles in a day bike ride to raise money for Macmillan nurses, link here at just giving. Well done you, don't know how you did it but we're so proud of you!

Back later in the week, see you all then.................

Hi Julia,
Love the bike and all your lovely photographs. We need to order our winter supply of logs but we are in the process of the doing the bathroom... infancy stages so to speak. Once we are in full run and the bathroom is sorted I will think about getting the house ready for Autumn, relaxing in front of a log fire is bliss!

Ooh your new bike is lovely. Is it vintage or new? I 'm the market for a new bike myself and that would be perfect.

What wonderful photos - I was happy to note that my mum has the jug featured in your lovely heading photo! I love your new bike. We have enough logs for the first half of the winter (Ben spends all year collecting people's fallen trees so we are off to a good start from his work in 2008...). The French January storms this year mean that wood will be cheap or free for next year too!

I love every photo! I'm envious of all of that firewood -- I can't wait until it's cold enough for cozy fires!

Just found you. I love your color! It's not sad. If it is, I'm one pouty girl. For I have color all around me. Love your bicycle and basket.

Wow Ian, well done you. I bet your bum's saddle sore now lol and could do with a bit of nursing.
Loving everything in this post Julia the colours are fabulous. Brightening up a late gloomy night here.
Hope to get to see you at the next handmade and vintage fair sweetie. And i need to know what wonderful fabrics you have for the wedding bunting. I know it's sometime next year but hey there is nothing like prepeared.

What a beautiful bike and I love the wool too. My husband farms so we get a good supply of logs each year as there is always something somewhere that needs cleared. Where we are living at the mo (whilst the extension is being done) has no proper fireplace so I'll have to wait until Christmas to get back to a real fire. You just can't beat them can you?

Hello from New York,

It is grand to see a new post from you. Have to admit that my busy work-a-day life has been cutting into my own ability to create blogs.

I am so glad to see what you've been up to. See so many interests that we do share.

Best wishes.

Love that shelf too, funny how little shelves can make such a difference sometimes.
Well done Ian for that mammoth bike ride, I imagine the word 'chaffing' has cropped up a few times after that epic journey!
