wet weekend...............

Well I don't know how the weather is treating the rest of you but here we seem to be either bathed in lovely spring sunshine or braving the monsoon season, all within the space of a few minutes. Far too confusing for my little brain and it means that twice I've had to cycle home in torrential rain wearing naught but a flimsy cardigan, "never prepared" being my motto.

We had a friend's 40th birthday party this weekend, a very posh do which entailed proper dressing up. I dragged my black dress from the back of the wardrobe, dusted it down and with the addition of a few turquoise accessories off we went, Ian resplendent in kilt and sporran, being of the Scottish variety.

Kitty has never seen me in evening dress let alone high heels and was fascinated by my shoes. She has been clattering around the bedroom in them all week. I learnt on the night why I never wear high heels, apart from making me walk like a drag queen, they're bloody uncomfortable. Being blessed with feet wider than a pair of flippers does not make wearing dainty strappy shoes a pleasure, give me flip flops any day.

Sunday was spent recovering from Saturday night. Once again I was reminded that I SHOULD NEVER EVER drink champagne, so for most of the day I felt the need to swoon on the sofa in a rather pathetic manner. Jack attempted to make me better with his toast crust heart, did the trick momentarily until my nearly 40 year old body reminded me of it's limitations when it comes to alcohol. Never again (until the next time).

This beautiful lilac was brought from a friend's garden. I love the blowsy beauty of it but I have to tell you, it smells like toilet cleaner. It gets right up my nostrils and I can't get rid of the smell. Is it just me?
I may be back later in the week, if we haven't been washed away, see you all soon.............

Re the Lilac - it's just you! I took some lilac flowers into the office and everyone commented on the lovely smell, until one woman came in and said "oh what's that horrible chemical smell?". It seems that to some people certain things just smell different. I love the smell of hyacinths, but my mum thinks they smell like disinfectant.

Firstly, I agree about the lilac smell.
Secondly, and maybe the two things share the same gene(?)- I have feet like you. I'd be better wearing the boxes mine are so wide. I once wore high heels to a night out and was asked, very politely, whether I had a bad back. No...I just walk like a cart horse in anything over an inch and a half.

Lol! great post. Sounds like a fun night. Cant say I have ever smelt a lilac, must be living a deprived life or not as is the case! lol.

Yes the blasted hangovers really do spoil the fun of a great night out. Last time I nursed a good one was last November. I couldnt move for most of the next day without feeling sick! Mind I know it wont stop me when the ocaision rises again.

Glutton for punishment me.

mmmmm lilac how I love the smell.
I agree with the high heel pain. I have loads but only wear them if I have to. At work I have flats in my drawer so I can change should the pain become too much.

The weather is a tad crazy isn't it. It seems as though the heavens are emptying themselves out, lets hope this is the last of it before summer eh?

Sometimes lilac can smell heavenly and sometimes very foosty (Ask your scottish chap if you don't know what it means)

I can't walk in high heels either.Bunions are my affliction.

The blue slipper are so glamorous, how could they cause pain? (I wonder how I once regularly wore shoes with heels that seem impossible to me now.)

My feet are on the wide side, but ... I do love the lilac scent.

Hoping that you will have many more extravagant nights out. Get those tootsies retrained!

I hope you're having a dryer week now (dry in two senses???) Thanks for your entertaining post, anyway - for me lilac is a take it or leave it scent, so clearly it does affect different people differently.

There is an award waiting for you at my blog!

Those white lilacs are so beautiful, but I can't do the smell. Much too strong for me!
I hope it stops raining soon...it poured here last night, but we woke to a blue sky morning. ~Joan

There was a time (approx 1 year ago, in fact) that i wouldn't have been seen in anything else other than high heels (or flip flops-depending on weather-but nothing in between) When we opened the new business my biggest concern was actually what I would wear on my tootsies! I am now a convert to plimsolls, in every colour of the rainbow. Love 'em! I put on a pair of heels at the weekend, grimaced, took them off, stroked them, and chucked them back in the cupboard!x

Hi Julia, know exactly what you mean about high heels - being short I always feel like Peggy Mitchell! Champagne is yummy though isn't it but it always gives me a terrible hangover. Mmmm, I think I will have to watch you with your jewellery designs....!! See you at the V&H fair? Kathyx

Stowford press is delicious isn't it?

Yup I think it counts as an apple. Well I've been counting it as part of my five a day, just like wine. ;)

Really pretty blog - I came across it by following some links. A happy accident!
I love the look of lilac - those cones of tiny petals. Their scent can be overwhelming though.

Lovely blog. I can't wear heels for toffee these days, lack of practice, can't drink alcohol without suffering greatly too, also lack of practice ;) I love the smell of lilac.

Know where you are coming from with the high heels and the champagne - pre children neither were a problem, now I get vertigo in anything other than flipflops!

Like the smell of lilacs, but hyacinths remind me of being ill in hospital when I was (very kindly) brought some and I can't bear the smell of them now - funny what strong associations smell can produce.

I too cannot walk in heels especially on slippy floors and even worse if I've had a drink.

I also have the same problem with jasmine in the house since becoming a mummy I cannot stand the smell of it, it makes me nauseous
