C'mon baby light my fire...........

At last! The temperature dipped today so I could at last light the fire - yippee! I can't tell you how many pics I had to take to get a decent one, I need some serious camera training!
All I need now is a good bit of telly and I won't need to move for the evening! "What Not to Wear" is on but Lisa Butcher freaks me out slightly, don't know why, she's no doubt a lovely person!

Had a great day today, went shopping (sorry Ian) with Andrea at a local fashion & gift fair. There were some lovely stalls with handmade bits and pieces so we came home with a couple of choice items including this glorious ribbon.
We're off "up North" to see family this weekend, I think a trip to Liverpool is on the cards. Can't wait to see everybody again, it's hard living away from family, but at least we can't get sick of the sight of one another! My sister is unexpectedly expecting her third child in March so it'll be good to see how the bump is coming along. This household can't wait for the new arrival and it means I can have all the joy of a new baby without the poo and sleepless night! I'll be sewing like mad once the baby arrives, I've got so many ideas.
On the subject of sewing, can anyone recommend an easy skirt pattern for complete beginners? I'd like to have a go but I am totally useless when it comes to reading instructions of any kind, my brain goes into a sort of meltdown and gives up so I need a very simple one to start with. Any suggestions?
Hope you all have a great weekend, see you next week..............

Oh what a fantastic fire. I'm so envious, we don't have one here and won't in our new house either. I grew up with a real fire and do miss it. Love your alcove cupboards too, my dad made some very similar for us here as the originals had been torn out. I can see what a great job he did, yours look so right.
I know absolutely what you mean about Lisa Butcher! She scares the pants off me. I think its her recently very short hair, bit severe. I found out today she was married to Marco "Hell's Kitchen" Pierre White. How peculiar is that?!
Enjoy your weekend and hope your sister's bump is doing well.

Enjoy your weekend, hope

It's freezing again here today so a nice open fire would be perfect. It looks so inviting!
What sort of skirt do you want to make and is it for you? The easiest would be a gathered elastic waistband but I also have just been given a pattern for a VERY easy wrap skirt made in panels with a tie belt - dead simple. Email me with what you want and I can mail you a copy of the pattern I have.

Your fire looks so inviting and warm. It's nice to put the heating, it makes me feel all Christmasie.
Lovely ribbon and the cake stand it's photoed on is just beautiful.
Good luck to your sister and have a lovely time with your family.
Hugs.

Hi Julia,
I just wondered if you'd read my comments on the post dated 24th Sept? Just asking a few questions about some or your stock i.e the ironing board and bunting? Look forward to hearing from you honey.
Many thanks.

Thanks for visiting! I love your fireplace, your home looks so welcoming. It's nice to have the excuse to light a fire, we've only got a gas coal effect fire but even so I can get very cosy sat next to it!Have a lovely weekend, I'm looking forward to being at home and catching up with everything I haven't had time to do all week. Sorry, can't help with the skirt pattern, my dressmaking days are long gone....but I'm sure some clever person will help you.

Hi, that's a wonderful fire. We've lit ours in the evening since the weather's turned colder. It's one of the main things I love about autumn. I've been trying to photo of our fire with the dog lying fast asleep on the hearth, but they never seem to come out properly...I need lessons too!

Yessss, open fire time - can hardly wait!

Thanks for visiting my blog the other day; you asked about bloglines - well, it's a site that keeps track of all the blogs you like to read and tells you when there are new posts on each one - so you know immediately when someone has put up something new without having to click through hundreds of them ... www.bloglines.com

That fire looks very inviting. And for a first skirt, I highly recommend Amy Butler's Barcelona Skirts pattern. She writes patterns for the clueless (perfect for me) with super-detailed instructions and loads of pics. And the finished thing is ultra flattering too.

Lisa has the patterns in stock at U-handbag usually.

Both dh & I are envious of your fire & indeed your fireplace. Sadly we live in a non-smoke area so it's artificial fireplaces for us but it's nice to share yours :o)
I love reading your blog, keep up the good work. I adore the quilt you bought and for just £5 gosh what a find could please blow some of your shopping finesse this way please LOL.
