Let me introduce you to Slash and his rock chick (aka Ian and Julia). This is the closest I'll get to a self portrait just yet. Ian and I went to an 80's party on Saturday and after much deliberation decided to go like this. We had the best time and danced and danced - I love the 80's so I was in seventh heaven. I could also get quite used to having a long haired, guitar playing rock star to share my life with! The most worrying thing about the whole evening was that we walked to the party and nobody batted an eyelid - are they used to seeing such sights where we live? Crossing the road Ian asked "Would Slash wait for the green man?". (Doesn't really look like a "Rock and Roll" garden does it?)
This is how our house looked during half term........................
...........actually it's how it looks all the time until I sweep it all to one side to take a blog photo, just to convince you I live in a pristine palace! Is it just me or do we all spend a vast majority of the time picking things up and putting them away just to turn round to find them back in the same spot again. I also can't throw anything away, hence I have drawers full of bits of broken toys and party bag stuff that I hang onto "just in case".
Jack wasn't well for a couple of days over half term so spent it like this, watching his favourite "Tom & Jerry" dvd on a continuous loop.
This is my sister Sarah helping Kitty bake a cake during her stay over half term, looking a bit like Nigella I think! She came to stay for a few days with my niece Hannah who I've threatened to put on the blog but my life's too important to me to take the risk! That's teenagers for you!
I must also mention Sarah's partner Keegan who hasn't been mentioned yet, just so he doesn't feel left out. I know my sister will be reading this so love and kisses to Matt to wish him all the best for his GCSEs. It's always sad when she leaves after a few days stay, we live over two hours apart and I wish she was just around the corner.
Finally the sun came out at the weekend and we could eat in the garden. I made a really tasty (if calorie laden) celery and Stilton soup and we soaked up some rays.
OK, so now for some gratuitous house shots................
This is our bedroom, the one room I try to keep free from Lego, dolls' prams, K'Nex etc. It is however home to an ever increasing pile of washing to put away. Once the pile gets to shoulder height I put it away and start again on the next tower.
Now I should really go and do some tidying. Tomorrow one of my oldest friends and her two children are coming to stay and as usual the house looks a little (understatement) untidy. By the way to see a perfect house you must visit sophie, her house is a vision of gorgeousness and soooooo tidy!

OMG you are the family look alike! Your sister is a Nigella photoshoot shoe-in and you'd pass for a 1980's Zoe Ball in an instant wearing that wig!
Tiding up with children in the house is a real treadmill - good luck!
My house always looks as if a bomb's hit it when the kids go back to school.
Great outfits!

Your house looks beautiful. My house usually looks like a bomb's hit it during the holidays. Love the outfits, a family of lookie likies!!!

Well hey, your rock chick outfit is something I would wear now, except the heels, I just can't do heels!!! You guys looked really funkey. I loved the 80s, which just goes to show what age I am... The house looks like mine, the bomb that goes off every morning about 7.30am and takes till 9.00pm to put right again. Still its not for ever. As for the rest of those pictures...Lush all the way...

Gorgeous bedroom, and doesn't everyone have a pile of laundry???? or is it just you and me?!
Lovely blog, I shall certainly visit again.

Oh your house looks lovely!! And, I do exactly what you do for blog photos, sweep everything out of sight!!
Your party sounds like fun- I love themed parties!!
Can I just snicker a bit? I remember the 80's. why does it seem so long ago. I am always happy when I read a blog post and see a home that is not pristine. Mine looks like two boys live here and half the mess is mine. LOL
looking good people - looking good!!!
as for your house - tidy or not it always looks beautiful.

Tee Hee! What fun - the best lookie likie slash I have seen!Rock on man!!!
Sorry, got a bit carried away there!!! (Should have seen me at the Foo Fighters gig last year!!)
Glad to hear the sweeping of rubbish goes on elsewhere, and laundry pile - you should see the Mt Everest in my bedroom!
I laughed out loud at Ian's comment about the green man! what a funny post!
We're all guilty of tidying up the house for blog photos I bet, maybe we should just be brave and show it like it is....
Glad you had fun with Nigella and family, and I love your house and your blog.

I think your outfit really suits you -you could get away with it as a current look -apart from the white stilettos of course-let's hope they never come back in fashion!
Did you dance around your handbag to Wham?
Please tell me you did!
Ian's "look" meanwhile is a Rock God classic!
Hi Julia,
Oh how funny! I've just come here after you'd posted on my blog (and so pleased I did - what a beautiful home you have...so many lovely things! (I love the idea of nailing the old shoes up - I too find it hard to get rid of those). I have particuarly fallen in love with the Green Gate emamel pots (I think, if I'm remembering the name correctly, that I have a spoon and a little pot from the Green Gate range - but I wasn't aware that they also did enamel things...but will now go off to investigate!).
But anyway...on to the bit that is funny - yes, you are completely right, we seem to have gone out in identical fancy dress with our respective Ians! You both look fantastic.
Florence x
